Dept. of Prosthodontics, Crown & Bridge

Prosthodontics is a specialized field of dentistry that focuses on the restoration and replacement of missing or damaged teeth and related oral structures. Prosthodontists are experts in diagnosing, planning, and executing treatment plans to enhance oral function, aesthetics, and overall quality of life for their patients.

Key aspects of Prosthodontics include:

  1. Restorative Dentistry:
Involves the restoration of natural teeth that are damaged or decayed using various techniques and materials, including fillings, crowns, bridges, and veneers.
  2. Replacement of Missing Teeth:
Prosthodontists design, create, and fit artificial teeth or dental appliances to replace missing teeth, such as dentures, bridges, and dental implants.
  3. Dental Implants:
Specialized training in the placement and restoration of dental implants, which are artificial tooth roots used to support dental crowns, bridges, or dentures to replace missing teeth.
  4. Crowns and Bridges:
Creation and placement of dental crowns (caps) to restore the shape, appearance, and function of a damaged tooth. Bridges are used to replace missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth to adjacent natural teeth.
  5. Dentures:
Design, fabrication, and fitting of partial or complete dentures to replace missing teeth and restore oral function and aesthetics.
  6. Cosmetic Dentistry:
Improving the appearance of teeth and the overall smile using cosmetic procedures like teeth whitening, veneers, bonding, and gum contouring.
  7. Full-Mouth Rehabilitation:
Comprehensive treatment planning and execution to restore the function and aesthetics of an entire mouth that has multiple missing or damaged teeth.
  8. Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders:
Diagnosis and management of TMJ disorders and related orofacial pain, including the design and fitting of specialized appliances to manage jaw joint issues.
  9. Maxillofacial Prosthetics:
Rehabilitation of patients with congenital or acquired defects of the head and neck region, such as cleft palate, maxillofacial trauma, or cancer reconstruction, using prostheses like obturators and facial prosthetics.

Prosthodontists work closely with other dental and medical specialists to provide comprehensive and coordinated care to their patients. They focus not only on functional restoration but also on achieving aesthetic outcomes that resemble natural teeth and contribute to improved oral health and overall well-being for their patients.
